This very readable book is an excellent information source for anyone who may want background information about this ancient disease that began to panic families and entire communities in the USA and the world with the epidemic of 1918, through the saga of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the March of Dimes, the ultimate triumph of vaccines from Salk and Sabin, and the monumental effort of Rotary International, WHO, Unicef and Center for Disease Control to eradicate polio completely.  An excerpt summary from the book may be found elsewhere in the PSA website. http://www.rotarypoliosurvivors.com/PDF/AmericanStory.pdf
